About GI-MAP

Your gut affects
far more than digestion.

GI-MAP stands for Gastrointestinal Microbial Assay Plus. Developed by Diagnostic Solutions Laboratory, it uses quantitative PCR (qPCR), a DNA-based method, to measure the amount of specific organisms in a stool sample rather than relying on whether they grow in a lab culture.

Your gut plays a role in digestion, immune function, nutrient absorption, and inflammation throughout the body. The GI-MAP looks at beneficial bacteria, opportunistic and disease-causing organisms, yeast, parasites, and markers of digestion, immune response, and inflammation in one test.

At Orchid Wellness, the GI-MAP is ordered through your $250 functional consultation with Chelsea Asante, FNP-C. The test is billed separately, and your results are reviewed with Chelsea live, in person in Carrollton or by telehealth across Texas, New York, Virginia, and Washington DC.

May reveal patterns like:
Bacterial pathogensParasitesViruses
🔬

H. pylori

Detects H. pylori, a bacterium linked to reflux, stomach discomfort, and ulcers, along with virulence factors that help guide treatment decisions.
May reveal patterns like:

🌱

Beneficial Bacteria

Measures key groups of beneficial bacteria to show whether your microbiome is balanced or depleted.
May reveal patterns like:
Low beneficial bacteriaDysbiosis
⚠️

Opportunistic Bacteria & Yeast

Identifies organisms normally present in small amounts that can cause symptoms when overgrown, including yeast such as Candida.
May reveal patterns like:

Markers such as pancreatic elastase and steatocrit show how well you are breaking down food and absorbing fat.
May reveal patterns like:
Low pancreatic enzymesFat malabsorption

Gut Immune Response

Secretory IgA and anti-gliadin IgA reflect your gut’s immune activity and possible reactivity to gluten.
May reveal patterns like:

Many standard stool tests rely on culture, which only detects organisms that grow in a lab dish, or check for a few specific infections. The GI-MAP measures DNA, so it can quantify a wide range of organisms, including many that are hard to culture, plus digestion and inflammation markers in one test.
