Hair Tissue
Mineral Analysis

Your hair holds a blueprint of your body's mineral balance over time. HTMA is a non-invasive lab test that reveals mineral deficiencies, excesses, and heavy metal toxicity that standard blood work often misses — giving Chelsea a deeper picture of what's driving your symptoms.

What Is Hair Tissue
Mineral Analysis?

Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis is a laboratory test that measures the mineral content of your hair. Because hair grows from follicles fed by the bloodstream, it acts as a long-term record of what your body has been absorbing, storing, and excreting over the past several months.

Unlike a standard blood draw, which captures a snapshot of what is circulating at a single moment, HTMA reflects patterns that develop over time. It can identify mineral imbalances, detect heavy metal accumulation, and reveal metabolic patterns that help explain symptoms that have been difficult to trace to a root cause.

At Orchid Wellness, HTMA results are reviewed by Chelsea Asante, FNP-C and used to guide personalized nutritional, lifestyle, and treatment recommendations that complement your overall care plan.

A Window Into Your
Body's Mineral World

HTMA measures both essential minerals your body needs to function and toxic heavy metals your body needs to eliminate. Imbalances in either category can have wide-ranging effects on your health.

🦴
Calcium
Critical for bone density, muscle function, nerve signaling, and cardiovascular health. Excess or deficiency both carry serious consequences.
💊
Magnesium
Involved in over 300 enzymatic reactions. Low magnesium is linked to anxiety, insomnia, muscle cramps, and cardiovascular issues.
🧂
Sodium & Potassium
Regulate fluid balance, adrenal function, and cellular energy. The sodium-potassium ratio reflects stress response and adrenal vitality.
🔩
Zinc & Copper
Zinc and copper work in opposition. Imbalances between them are linked to immune dysfunction, mood disorders, hormonal issues, and skin problems.
⚗️
Iron
Essential for oxygen transport and energy production. Both low and high iron levels cause fatigue and systemic dysfunction.
🦠
Selenium & Chromium
Selenium supports thyroid function and antioxidant defense. Chromium plays a key role in blood sugar regulation and insulin sensitivity.
⚠️
Mercury & Lead
Heavy metals with no beneficial role in the body. Accumulation is associated with neurological, hormonal, and systemic health problems.
☣️
Arsenic & Cadmium
Environmental toxins absorbed through food, water, and air. Chronic low-level exposure can affect energy, immune function, and organ health.

Symptoms That May Signal
Mineral Imbalance

Many common symptoms that are difficult to pinpoint through standard testing have a mineral or heavy metal component. HTMA is particularly useful when patients have ongoing symptoms without a clear explanation.

HTMA is a complement to, not a replacement for, standard clinical care. Chelsea uses HTMA results as one part of a broader assessment to build a more complete picture of your health.
  • Persistent fatigue that doesn't improve with rest
  • Brain fog, difficulty concentrating, or memory issues
  • Anxiety, depression, or unexplained mood changes

  • Muscle cramps, weakness, or joint discomfort

HTMA FAQ

No. A hair drug test and HTMA are completely different types of analysis. HTMA measures mineral concentrations and heavy metals in the hair shaft. It does not detect medications, substances, or any compounds related to drug testing.
Hair treatments like coloring, bleaching, perming, or straightening can affect some mineral readings on the HTMA report. Chelsea will ask about your hair care history at your appointment and take this into account when interpreting your results. In some cases, untreated hair from another part of the body may be used instead.
Lab results typically return within 2 to 3 weeks from the time your sample is received by the laboratory. Once results are available, Chelsea will schedule a follow-up to review them with you in detail and build your personalized plan.
No. HTMA complements standard blood work rather than replacing it. Blood tests are still necessary for many clinical assessments. HTMA adds a different layer of information, particularly for long-term mineral patterns and heavy metal accumulation that blood work does not reliably capture.
HTMA is not covered by insurance and is offered as a self-pay functional wellness service. At Orchid Wellness, the $475 fee is all-inclusive — it covers the comprehensive lab analysis, a follow-up visit with Chelsea to review your results, and a personalized plan built from those results. Cherry financing is available to help spread the cost into manageable monthly payments.
For patients actively working on mineral rebalancing or detoxification, retesting every 3 to 4 months allows Chelsea to track your progress and adjust your protocol. For maintenance monitoring, once or twice a year may be appropriate. Chelsea will make a recommendation based on your individual results and goals.
